Stone CNC Machine Maintenance

Regular CNC machine maintenance inspections are crucial to extending your CNC stone machine's useful life and ensuring its best performance. We understand the value of routine maintenance at Diversified Equipment, a recognized supplier of CNC stone machines and manufacturing equipment. Your CNC stone machine can be inspected and maintained with the help of our team of experts.

The maintenance of CNC machines is very important. One of the biggest reasons for equipment breakdowns is a lack of regular maintenance, so we’ve created a list to help you keep your CNC stone fabrication equipment in top shape. Want it done for you?  Check out DES preventative maintenance plans.

Preventative CNC Machine Maintenance:

We have listed preventative maintenance tips to ensure your machine remains at optimal overall performance.

1. Regular Cleaning:

  • Ensure the machine is turned off and locked out.
  • Clean the working surfaces and the entire machine regularly to remove stone sludge and debris. This prevents the accumulation of particles that can cause undue wear on moving parts.
  • For water-fed systems, change the water filters regularly to prevent water pressure loss that can result in premature tool wear.

2. Inspect the Polishing Heads:

  • Regularly inspect the polishing heads for any wear and tear. Diamonds and polishers that are not properly maintained can result in unwanted linear lines on the product.
  • Ensure they're mounted properly and check if they need replacement or reconditioning.

3. Lubricate Moving Parts:

  • Regularly lubricate all the moving parts of the machine to prevent friction-related wear, this includes keeping self-oilers and self-greasers properly filled.
  • Also test the low lubricant alarms for proper function.
  • Always use the recommended lubricant by the machine manufacturer and adhere to the frequency of application they suggest.

4. Check Electrical Components:

  • Regularly inspect the electrical wiring and components for any signs of damage, wear, or corrosion.
  • Ensure all connections are secure. Replace any damaged components immediately.

5. Monitor Water Jets and Coolant System:

  • Check for consistent water flow and ensure there are no clogs in the system.
  • Clean and replace water filters as required. If the system uses a coolant, make sure it's mixed correctly and is free from contaminants.
  • One of the most important tips is to never run recycled water through the system.

6. Inspect Belts, Pulleys and Tool Holders:

  • Check for any signs of wear, cracks, or misalignment. Belts should be tight and not slipping.
  • Replace worn belts promptly to avoid sudden machine failures.
  • Inspect the tool holders for wear in the taper/cone, and confirm the pull studs aren’t worn out of tolerance which can result in tools getting stuck in the spindle.

7. Calibrate Regularly:

  • Make sure the machine is properly calibrated to ensure precision in stone edge polishing.
  • Calibration should be done as per the manufacturer's guidelines.

8. Regularly Check Machine Bed and Rails:

  • The bed and rails should remain flat and parallel. Any misalignment can result in a poor finish.
  • Clean the rails of any debris and make sure they are lubricated properly.

9. Review Safety Mechanisms:

  • Ensure all safety guards, sensors, and interlocks are functioning correctly.
  • Never bypass safety systems; they are there to protect the operator and the equipment.

10. Keep a Maintenance Log:

  • Document every maintenance activity, whether it's regular cleaning or part replacement.
  • This will help in diagnosing any potential issues and serve as a reminder for when the next scheduled maintenance is due.

Remember, If you don’t take care of your machine, it won’t take care of you.  Stone machines operate in a harsh, wet, environment and don’t perform well when covered with sludge.

Regular preventative maintenance, along with operator training on proper machine use and emergency procedures, is the best way to ensure the long-term health and efficiency of your stone edge polisher. Always refer to the manufacturer's manual for specific guidelines related to your machine model.
